Harvest alternative

A leaner, lower-cost alternative to Harvest

If you picked Harvest for time tracking and project budgets, Timix.AI does that core for less per seat, adds AI sentence logging and hard-stop budget alerts Harvest doesn't, and rolls up true client margin. The honest trade: Timix.AI generates commercial invoices (Professional+) but doesn't collect payment or do country-specific cleared e-invoicing — and we're the newer product.

90-day free trial, full access, no credit card.

Why teams switch the time-tracking layer
  • Project budget — hard cap stops entry
  • Log by AI sentence one line
  • Margin per client (dual rates) rolled up
  • Reverse trial 90 days, no card

01 The problem

Paying for the invoicing half you don't use

Plenty of small firms run Harvest purely as a time tracker and bill from their accounting tool anyway. That means per-seat money going to an invoicing engine you've switched off — and missing the budget and margin controls you actually wanted.

Per-seat cost for features you've turned off

When the invoicing and payments side sits unused, the seat price still reflects it. On a small team every seat counts, and you're funding a billing suite to get a timesheet.

Budgets that warn but don't stop

Knowing a project is over budget after the fact is the common case. What small firms keep asking for is a cap that actually blocks further hours at the ceiling, not just a bar that turns red once the margin's gone.

Margin lives in a spreadsheet beside the tool

Tracking revenue is easy; matching the cost of delivery back to each client to get real margin usually ends up in a side spreadsheet, rebuilt every quarter and trusted by no one.

02 How Timix.AI fits

The core you switched on, plus the parts you wished for

Timix.AI focuses on the time-tracking core small firms run Harvest for, then adds the budget enforcement, AI capture, and margin that tipped you into looking for an alternative — at a lower per-seat price.

The time-tracking core, for less per seat

Clients, projects, tasks, three billing types, and approvals — the everyday tracking you ran Harvest for — at aggressive per-seat pricing, with a free tier and a 90-day reverse trial so the switch costs nothing to test.

Customer → Project → Task → SubTask with 3 billing types; free tier + 90-day reverse trial, no card.

Budgets that actually stop, not just warn

Put a soft limit that warns and a hard limit that blocks further entries on any project, task, or subtask, with the alert threshold you choose — enforced at the moment of entry, the control teams say Harvest's budgets don't give them.

Budgets at project/task/subtask; soft warns, hard stops at the moment of time entry, with configurable thresholds.

Log time by talking to it

Type "log 2 hours on the Initech rebrand" to Timix.AI and the entry appears, and ask it which projects are over budget instead of building a report — capture and answers Harvest doesn't offer.

Timix.AI logs entries from a sentence and answers budget/margin/hours questions (Starter+).

True client margin, built in

Every hour carries a customer rate and an effective-dated cost rate, so revenue, cost, profit, and margin roll up per client and project — no side spreadsheet to reconcile.

Dual rates → revenue/cost/profit/margin rollups; effective-dated cost rates.

0 per-seat cost to trial — 90-day reverse trial, no card
2 budget limits Harvest lacks — soft warns, hard stops entry
Many built-in report pages, exportable to PDF/CSV

03 Try the switch

04 FAQ

Switching from Harvest, asked honestly

Does Timix.AI really cost less than Harvest?

For the time-tracking-and-budgets core, yes — pricing is aggressive per-seat with a genuine free tier and a 90-day full-access reverse trial, so you can confirm the saving on your own seat count before paying anything. Check current Harvest pricing against ours for your team size; we don't claim to undercut every plan in every case.

Does it replace Harvest's invoicing?

Mostly. On Professional and up, Timix.AI generates commercial invoices from approved hours (line items, tax, branded PDF) — the same kind of document Harvest produces. It doesn't take payment, and it doesn't do country-specific cleared e-invoicing; for those, export billing-ready hours (Unbilled Time and Customer Billing to PDF/CSV) or bill from your accounting tool. If in-tracker payment collection is essential, that's still Harvest's job.

What does Timix.AI do that Harvest doesn't?

Three things teams switch for: budgets with a hard limit that actually stops entry at the ceiling (not just a warning), Timix.AI that logs time from a sentence and answers budget and margin questions, and dual-rate client margin rolled up live. All built in, no add-on.

You're newer than Harvest — what's the catch?

We are newer, with a smaller track record and no ready-made third-party connectors yet (a key-authenticated Integration API is coming on Professional+). What you get for that: a focused, lower-cost tool, the budget and AI features above, and a 90-day reverse trial to de-risk trying it. Bulk CSV import moves your existing clients and projects in.
